Abstract:Particles regularly tribocharge in collisions. Here, we study how long charges can persist on such particles in the environment of a protoplanetary disk. We did set up three complementary experiments to quantify discharge timescales. We first directly measure the time dependency of charge on triboelectrically charged objects. For this aspect we performed two long time experiments under different environmental conditions. We find that charge persists on the tribocharged bodies on timescales between minutes to y… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
