Tribes and Clades Within Apiaceae Subfamily Apioideae: The Contribution of Molecular Data

Abstract: Phylogenetic analyses of chloroplast gene (rbcL, matK ), intron (rpl16, rps16, rpoC1) and nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences and chloroplast DNA restriction sites, with supplementary data from variation in size of the chloroplast genome inverted repeat, have been used to elucidate major clades within Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) subfamily Apioideae Drude. This paper summarizes the results of previously published molecular cladistic analyses and presents a provisional classification of… Show more

“…We also found that C. heldreichii, C. appuanum and H. multiflorum clustered within the Pyramidoptereae Boiss. tribe (the Crithmum group in Downie et al, 2001). The first two species formed a well supported clade with 96% bootstrapping and 100% Bayesian support.…”

“…To date, many gene markers have been employed in the phylogenetic study of the Apiaceae (Downie et al, 2001Kadereit and Kadereit, 2005;Zhou et al, 2008Zhou et al, , 2009Spalik et al, 2009Spalik et al, , 2014, such as nrDNA ITS region, chloroplast DNA gene (rbcL and matK), intergenic spacer (psbI-5'trnK and rps16-5'trnK), and intron (rpl16, rps16, and rpoC1) sequences. Among these, the ITS region is the most frequently used marker.…”

“…The ITS region has also been successfully used for low-level phylogenetic analyses in the Apiaceae (Downie et al, 2001Kadereit and Kadereit, 2005;Zhou et al, 2008Zhou et al, , 2009Spalik et al, 2009). The numerous ITS sequences available in GenBank for almost all currently reported species of Oenanthe provide a reference for species discrimination.…”
