Abstract:The Julian Alps (western Slovenia) structurally belong to the eastern Southern Alps. The Upper Triassic succession mostly consists of shallow water platform carbonates of the Dolomia Principale-Dachstein Limestone system and a deep water succession of the Slovenian Basin outcropping in the southern foothills of the Julian Alps. In addition to the Slovenian Basin, a few other intraplatform basins were present, but they remain poorly researched and virtually ignored in the existing paleogeographic reconstructions of the eastern Southern Alps. Herein, we describe a deepening-upward succession from the Tamar Valley (north-western Slovenia), belonging to the Upper Triassic Tarvisio Basin. The lower, Julian-Tuvalian part of the section comprises peritidal to shallow subtidal carbonates (Conzen Dolomite and Portella Dolomite), and an intermediate carbonate-siliciclastic unit, reflecting increased terrigenous input and storm-influenced deposition (Julian-lowermost Tuvalian shallow-water marlstone and marly limestone of the Tor Formation). Above the drowning unconformity at the top of the Portella Dolomite, Tuvalian well-bedded dolomite with claystone intercalations follows (Carnitza Formation). The latter gradually passes into the uppermost Tuvalian-lowermost Rhaetian bedded dolomite with chert and slump breccias, deposited on a slope and/or at the toe-of-slope (Bača Dolomite). Finally, basinal thin-bedded bituminous limestone and marlstone of Rhaetian age follow (Frauenkogel Formation). The upper part of the Frauenkogel Formation contains meter-scale platform-derived limestone blocks, which are signs of platform progradation. The Tarvisio Basin may have extended as far as the present Santo Stefano di Cadore area, representing a notable paleogeographic unit at the western Neotethys margin.

“…A nagy negatív kilengés a kezdeti szénizotóp-anomáliával, egy kisebb negatív anomália a rhaetiben pedig az "előfutár" anomáliával párhuza -mosítható. A fő negatív anomáliának megfeleltethető eltoló dást ezzel szemben a későbbi, a vizsgált szelvényszakaszt fölfelé további 20 m-rel, a középső-hettangiig bővítő kutatás sem talált, viszont a markáns kezdeti anomália megnövelt felbontású vizsgálatával rövidtávú oszcillációk sorozatát tárta fel (PÁLFY et al 2007a). A Vár-heggyel átellenben a pokol-völgyi kőfejtő 16 m vastag felső rhaeti rétegsorát KORTE & KOZUR (2011) vizsgálták, és bár egy enyhe, 1‰ körüli negatív eltolódást és az azt lépcsőzetesen követő ~2‰-es pozitív eltolódást regisztráltak, ezek megfeleltet hetősége a vár-hegyi szelvénnyel nem egyér telmű.…”

BevezetésA földtani kutatások eredményeként régóta tudjuk, hogy voltak a Föld történetében olyan, viszonylag rövid idejű környezeti krízisek, amelyek az élővilág igen jelentős megváltozását eredményezték, amikor tömegesen haltak ki fajok, nemzetségek, sőt a szervezetek nagyobb csoportjai is. Ezek a krízisek nemegyszer döntően megváltoztatták az élővilág fejlődésének további menetét. Bolygónk történetét szakaszokra tagolják és ily módon a földtörténetben mér -föld köveknek tekinthetők. Azt, hogy az ősmaradvány-együt tesekben hirtelen, jelentős változások vannak már a 19. század első felében felismerték. Ezeknél a változásoknál vonták meg a földtörténeti időszakok határát és az 1820-1840 között elnevezett időszakok (pl.: szilur, devon, triász, jura, kréta) máig érvényben vannak. 1841-ben John PHILLIPS javasolta az állatvilág fejlettségén alapuló tagolást, megalkot va a paleozoikum, mezozoikum és kainozoikum ter minusokat (MORRELL 2001).A földtörténet legutolsó, mintegy fél milliárd évének leg nagyobb tömeges kihalási eseményeit RAUP & SEPKOSKI (1982) az ősmaradvány anyag korszerű elemzésével mutatta ki. A kihalási ráta változásait ábrázoló diagramjukon öt feltűnő kihalási csúcs jelentkezik: az ordovícium végén, a ké -ső-devonban, a perm végén, a triász végén és a kréta végén. Az öt legnagyobb közt van a tehát a paleozoikum-mezozoikum és a mezozoikum-kainozoikum határa is. Ez jól mutatja, hogy az élővilág összetételének változásai ezeknél a fordulópontoknál olyan erőteljesek voltak, hogy azokat a rétegtan kialakulásának hajnalán is felismerhették a réteg -sorok tagolásán fáradozó kutatók. In connection with this, the last two decades have seen increasing research efforts to gain more knowledge and thus a better understanding of this event. These efforts have included detailed studies of numerous stratigraphic sections worldwide. The review presented here attempts to summarize the major results of multi-faceted international research on the stratigraphic and fossil record of the end-Triassic event, discussing proposed cause-and-effect relationships and possible scenarios. Abstract:Terminal Triassic environmental changes are characterized by an integrated study of lithology, litho-and cyclostratigraphy, paleontology, mineralogy, geochemistry and rock magnetism in the Tatra Mts. The Carpathian Keuper sequence was deposited in an arid environment with only seasonal rivers, temporal lakes and swamps with scarce vegetation. Combination of a wide range of 18 O values (-0.7 to + 2.7) with negative 13 C values documents dolomite precipitation either from brackish or hypersaline lake water, or its derivation from pore water comparably to the Recent Coorong B-dolostone. Negative 13 C values indicate microbial C productivity. Rhaetian transgressive deposits with restricted Rhaetavicula fauna accumulated in nearshore swamps and lagoons. Associations of foraminifers, bivalves and sharks in the Zliechov Basin were controlled by physical factors. Bivalve mollusc biostromes were repetitively destroyed by storms, and temporary firm bottoms were colonized by oysters and burrowers. Subsequent black shale deposition recorded input of eolian dust. Bottom colonization by pachyodont bivalves, brachiopod and corals started much later, during highstand conditions. Facies evolution also revealed by geochemical data, C and O isotope curves reflect eustatic and climatic changes and help reconstruct the evolution of Rhaetian marine carbonate ramp. The Fatra Formation consists of 100 kyr eccentricity and 40 kyr obliquity cycles; much finer rhythmicity may record monsoonlike climatic fluctuations. Fluvial and eolian events were indicated by analysis of grain size and content of clastic quartz, concentrations of foraminiferal (Agathammina) tests in thin laminae indicates marine ingression events. Magnetic susceptibility (MS) variations reflect the distribution of authigenic and detrital constituents in the sequence. Increasing trend of MS correlates with the regressive Carpathian Keuper sequence and culminates within the bottom part of the Fatra Formation. Decreasing trend of MS is observed upwards the transgressive deposits of the Fatra Formation.
