Triarylethene-Based Extended π-Systems:  Programmable Synthesis and Photophysical Properties

Abstract: [reaction: see text] On the basis of an efficient Pd-catalyzed triarylation to a vinylsilane platform, four types of structurally well-defined triarylethene-based extended pi-systems have been prepared very rapidly. From a compound library constructed by the present method, it was possible to find a number of interesting fluorescent materials, as well as interesting fluorescent properties such as aggregation-induced enhanced emission. A useful method for the rapid synthesis and property evaluation has also bee… Show more

“…These are usually arranged in a linear fashion, but also a branched architecture is possible. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] In branched π-systems, which are also referred to as cross-conjugated systems, [8,9] several linear π-conjugation paths are present. From a fundamental point of view it is of interest to assess which conjugation path dominates in a given cross-conjugated compound, and by which factors this is controlled.…”

“…Some of them also show photoluminescence in the solid state as well as aggregation induced emission enhancement (AIEE) [37]. Aggregation induced emission (AIE) active molecules basically have two or more conjugated-aromatic moieties joined through rotatable C-C single bond [38][39][40][41]. This free intramolecular rotation along the C-C single bond occurs only in the solution, whereas in the aggregated state it gets inhibited.…”
