“…Triage is usually performed by a triage nurse, who makes a brief assessment of the patient's apparent needs and priority of care, resulting in the patient being placed in a queue. Most countries have adopted a five-level triage and acuity scale, [9][10][11][12] and these triage tools have been shown to estimate a patient's degree of urgency with satisfactory interobserver reliability. [13][14][15] However, to date the presence of a UR is not a variable considered when nurses assign these triage scores.…”

“…Since resource use and admission rates are associated with the complexity and severity of a patient's status, these parameters have been used as validity criteria in many studies (Wuerz et al, 2000;Tanabe et al, 2004;Roukema et al, 2006;Taboulet et al, 2009). In concordance with these studies, we used admission-and death rates (both markers for injury severity) and LOS (a marker for resource utilisation) as primary outcome measures to evaluate the validity of the ENP-stream.…”

“…This risk classification is a procedure that has been widely used to organize the demand, since it is a dynamic process of identification of patients who need immediate treatment, according to the potential of risk, health problems or suffering degree 8,9 . It is well known that the adult population is at greater risk of developing periodontal disease, while children are at greater risk of developing tooth decay, and, in order to establish individual risk for planning purposes, it can be considered the most significant event for the population group to be examined and classified 6 .…”
