Trends of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation From 2009 to 2018: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) technology, which is amongst the most used non-invasive brain stimulation techniques currently available, has developed rapidly from 2009 to 2018. However, reports on the trends of rTMS using bibliometric analysis are rare. The goal of the present bibliometric analysis is to analyze and visualize the trends of rTMS, including general (publication patterns) and emerging trends (research frontiers), over the last 10 years by using the visual analytic tool CiteS… Show more

“…The nodes in the network maps represented the type of study being analyzed, such as the authors, countries/regions, institutions, cited references, and keywords; link lines between the nodes indicated cooperative, co-cited, or co-occurring relationships ( 36 ). The size of a node indicated the number of citation or occurrence, and the width of a line indicated the strength of the relationship ( 36 , 37 ). The color of a node, represented by a series of annual rings, indicated the distribution time ( 36 , 38 ).…”

“…Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is increasingly being used as a therapeutic intervention to enhance recovery following brain and spinal cord injury (Müller-Dahlhaus and Vlachos, 2013;Rodger and Sherrard, 2015;Zheng et al, 2020). TMS is also being tested as a potential replacement for electroconvulsive therapy for individuals with psychiatric disorders.…”

“…Oracle Crystal Ball (11.1.2.4.400) was used to predict the trend in the numbers of publications. Furthermore, Hirsch index (H-index) values were searched from the Web of Science; H-index values indicate that researchers have published h papers and that each paper was cited at least h times and can be used to describe the cumulative impact of an author, country, or institution [ 19 ]. Journal IFs were obtained from the 2019 version of Journal Citation Reports, which are used as a measure of the scientific value of research [ 20 ].…”
