Introduction: In South Korea, the prevalence of obesity has continuously increased over the last decade, and the burden of social and economic costs has also increased immensely. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical characteristics and current status of patients receiving herbal medicine (HM) treatment for weight loss in Korean medicine (KM) by constructing a multi-institutional prospective registry. Methods and analysis: This is a prospective, observational, multi-center registry, including patients visiting the KM clinics in South Korea for weight loss. This study will collaborate with 15 KM clinics and recruit patients into the registry between October 2021 and October 2022. The study population will include patients visiting the KM clinics for weight loss. A total of 1000 eligible patients visiting the KM clinics for weight loss who decide to undergo HM treatment will be enrolled in the registry. After enrollment, we will collect the individual characteristics of each patient, such as body mass index, body composition test, liver and kidney function tests, and information on prescribed HM. We will also record the adverse events at each visit. Discussion: This study is the first prospective, multicenter registry of HM for weight loss in KM clinics. The results of this registry may show the current status of patients who receive HM treatments for weight loss and provide evidence for reasonable decision-making on KM healthcare policy for obese patients in the future.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of female infertility patients who come to Korean medicine clinics and analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment methods and the effects of female infertility by registry data.Methods: We are recruiting study participants from Korean medicine hospitals and clinics. If female infertility patients come, we will ask them to register for this study. After enrollment, we will collect demographic information, treatment methods, pregnancy results, adverse events, and treatment costs.Result: First, we will analyze the characteristics of patients, the status of the use of Korean medicine treatment interventions, the cost status of Korean medicine infertility treatment, and the delivery characteristics of pregnant women after Korean medicine treatment. Second, we will analyze the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment. The primary outcome is clinical pregnancy rate, and secondary outcomes are 12-week pregnancy maintenance rate, degree of dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome, stress level, and health-related quality of life score.Discussion: This study is the first observational multi-center study in Korea for female infertility. By establishing the registry, we are creating a resource that contains patient-reported outcome measures for female infertility. The registry is expected to provide valuable data for developing Korean medicine Clinical practice guidelines for female infertility.

Association between Prognosis of Low Back Pain Patients with Severity of Abnormal Lumbar Lordosis

Objectives To analyze the prognosis of patients with low back pain according to the severity of abnormal lumbar lordotic angle and Ferguson's angle. Methods Data from electronic medical record of a total of 199 patients hospitalized in Korean medicine hospital were analyzed. With the sagittal view of lumbar spine X-ray, lumbar lordotic angle was defined as the angle between the superior endplate of L1 with the inferior endplate of L5. Ferguson's angle was defined as the angle between the superior surfaces of the sacral with a horizontal line. 'Measure Cobb's Angle Tool' of 'INFINITT PACS' was used to measure both angles. Lumbar lordotic angle and Ferguson's angle were subdivided into five sections. The number of days from onset and the duration of hospitalization were analyzed in each section. Results Severe hypolordotic lumbar lordotic angle group were found to have longer medical history and hospitalization duration than the control group. The ratio of long-term hospitalization (over 15 days) and chronic medical history (over 180 days) of patients with severe hypolordotic Ferguson's angle were significantly higher than the control group. The ratio of patients with chronic medical history (over 180 days) was significantly higher in severe hyperlordotic Ferguson's angle group than the control group. Conclusions Severe hypolordotic lumbar lordotic angle was related to patient's prognosis. Both severe hyperlordotic and severe hypolordotic Ferguson's angle were found to be related to patient's prognosis. However, a moderate loss of lumbar lordotic angle and Ferguson's angle was not related to prognosis of low back pain patients.
