“…No records of P. reticulata in the Amazon Forest biome were found, except in the municipalities of Manaus (Amazonas) and Belém (Pará). As most of Amazonia is inaccessible because of large forests, the lack of records may be linked to the low sampling effort in remote areas (Dias et al ., ). On the other hand, the records of P. reticulata in Manaus and Belém date from 1967 and 1962, respectively (Figure b), and despite the historical occupation of both municipalities (more than 340 years each), their large populations (more than 1.4 million inhabitants each) and the good knowledge of aquatic biodiversity in their metropolitan areas ( e.g ., Espírito‐Santo et al ., ), no records of guppies in the surrounding areas exist.…”

“…Some records were excluded because the geographical coordinates and/or sampling dates were not provided in detail or could not be determined directly from information in the publication itself (Dias et al ., ). Overall, incomplete and discarded records comprised only 0.7% (12 out of 1649 records) of the data set.…”

“…In the absence of information on which species of predators are most important in different stages of the life cycle, fish‐assemblage composition may be a reliable way to measure the effect of potential predation or competition on shrimp assemblages. Habitat variation also explains fish‐assemblage composition in streams (Dias et al, ; Espírito‐Santo, Magnusson, Zuanon, Mendonça, & Landeiro, ; Mendonça, Magnusson, & Zuanon, ), so effects of habitat on shrimp abundance could be confounded by the effect of habitat on fish composition.…”
