“…The article has been cited by Rorschach proponents as having settled the question of Rorschach validity (e.g., Shontz & Green, 1992). Our research cannot support this conclusion about the Rorschach, or about the MMPI or Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) for that matter.…”

“…Because of the enormity of the undertaking this would require, we doubt that it will ever occur. However, for those interested in undertaking such an enterprise, numerous sources are available to assist in designing and analyzing Rorschach research (e.g., Exner, 1995;Meyer, 1996a;Shontz & Green, 1992;Viglione, 1997;Weiner, 1995;Widiger & Schilling, 1980). Available evidence does support the continued use in research contexts of some specific scales, including some that are not included in the Comprehensive System.…”

“…With this in mind, we now turn to recent reviews of the evidence typically marshaled in support of the validity of the Comprehensive System and/or the Rorschach. Shontz and Green (1992), although often cited as providing evidence for the validity of the Rorschach, rely entirely on the Atkinson (1986), Atkinson et al (1986), Parker (1983), and Parker et al (1988) studies to support their contention that the Rorschach is valid when used appropriately. In his 1996 article on the validity of the Rorschach, Weiner relied primarily on the meta-analytic research of Atkinson (1986) and Parker et al Additionally, he indicated that Ornberg and Zalewski's (1994) review of 48 studies using the Rorschach with adolescents provided some evidence for the test's validity.…”

“…A number of authors (Acklin, McDowell, Verschell, & Chan, 2000;Meyer, 1997;Viglione, 1999) provide recent and balanced reviews in which selected CS variables are discussed in terms of high interscorer reliability. Other research confirms the validity of the Rorschach in a variety of applications (Gacono et al, 2001;Gacono & Meloy, 1994;Hiller, Rosenthal, Bornstein, Berry, & Brunell-Neuleib, 1999;Meyer, 2000; see also Bannatyne et al, 1999;Hilsenroth, Handler, Toman, & Padawer, 1995;Shontz & Green, 1992;Viglione, 1999). Even the novice consumer of assessment literature will rapidly conclude that the Rorschach has considerable psychometric strengths.…”
