“…We detected linezolid resistance in only 1 other CoNS isolate of 1,771 isolates tested through August 2006, resulting in a resistance rate of Ͻ0.1%. This is in keeping with the low rates from the 2002 and 2003 surveillance programs (1).…”

“…A potential explanation for this would be the much higher and continually increasing rate of linezolid usage at our institution, compared with the national average (17.4 vs 6.3 DDD per 1,000 patient-days). 24,25 However, this explanation does not correlate with the results of our multivariate model, which favored horizontal transmission of the resistant organism throughout our institution. In the multivariate model, receipt of a solid organ transplant was a risk factor specifically associated with the isolation of linezolid-resistant VRE, and this is most likely due to the fact that the majority of our transplantation patients are located in the same ward in our institution.…”

“…However, some linezolid resistant isolates have been isolated from patients with no prior linezolid exposure. 11,12 In this patient there was no history of prior intake of the drug and still the isolate was not sensitive. Such a case has not been reported previously from our institute.…”
