Trends in Damage by Wireworms (Coleoptera: Elateridae) in Grain Crops in Saskatchewan, 1954–1961

Abstract: Survey of grain crops in Saskatchewan showed that most of the serious damage by wireworms occurred in the western two-thirds of the province. The average damage for ail soil and cropping conditions was greatest in wheat, less in barley, and least in oats. Serious damage occurred occasionally in barley and oats. With wheat and barley, damage was generally greater on summer-fallow than on stubble, and greater in medium-textured soils than in heavy soils. With oats there were some deviations from this pattern.
