Many websites over the Internet are producing a variety of textual data; such as news, research articles, ebooks, personal blogs, and user reviews. In these websites, the textual data is so large that the process of finding pertinent information by a user often becomes cumbersome. To overcome this issue, "Text-based Recommendation Systems (RS)" are being developed. They are the systems with the capability to find the relevant information in a minimal time using text as the primary feature. There exist several techniques to build and evaluate such systems. And though a good number of surveys compile the general attributes of recommendation systems, there is still a lack of comprehensive literature review about the text-based recommendation systems. In this paper, we present a review of the latest studies on text-based RS. We have conducted this survey by collecting literature from preeminent digital repositories, that was published during the period 2010-2020. This survey mainly covers the four major aspects of the textual based recommendation systems used in the reviewed literature. The aspects are datasets, feature extraction techniques, computational approaches, and evaluation metrics. As benchmark datasets carry a vital role in any research, publicly available datasets are extensively reviewed in this paper. Moreover, for text-based RS many proprietary datasets are also used, which are not available in the public. But we have consolidated all the attributes of these publically available and proprietary datasets to familiarize these attributes to new researchers. Furthermore, the feature extraction methods from the text are briefed and their usage in the construction of text-based RS are discussed. Later, various computational approaches that use these features are also discussed. To evaluate these systems, some evaluation metrics are adopted. We have presented an overview of these evaluation metrics and diagramed them according to their popularity. The survey concludes that Word Embedding is the widely used feature selection technique in the latest research. The survey also deduces that hybridization of text features with other features enhance the recommendation accuracy. The study highlights the fact that most of the work is on English textual data, and News recommendation is the most popular domain.

Предметом вивчення в статті є процеси формування пояснень для персоналізованих рекомендацій щодо вибору товарів та послуг в рекомендаційних системах. Метою є розробка інформаційної технології побудови деталізованих пояснень щодо запропонованого персонального переліку предметів в рекомендаційній системі з урахуванням темпоральних змін у вимогах споживачів для підвищення ефективності продажів товарів та послуг в системах електронної комерції. Завдання: розробка підходу до побудови темпоральних правил для формування пояснення на основі порівняння кількості продажів на послідовності інтервалів часу; розробка технології побудови темпорально-орієнтованих пояснень щодо рекомендацій з вибору предметів в рекомендаційних системах. Використовуваними підходами є: підходи до побудови пояснень щодо рекомендацій з урахуванням змін уподобань користувачів з часом. Отримані наступні результати. Розроблено підхід до побудови темпоральних правил, що визначають темпоральну динаміку вподобань користувачів рекомендаційної системи. З використанням темпоральних правил розроблено технологію побудови та деталізації пояснень, що враховують зміни вимог користувачів з часом. Висновки. Наукова новизна отриманих результатів полягає в наступному. Запропоновано інформаційну технологію побудови деталізованих пояснень щодо рекомендацій з урахуванням змін вимог користувачів з часом. Технологія використовує моделі темпоральних правил та темпоральну модель інтерфейсу пояснень. Технологія передбачає послідовну побудову базових пояснень з урахуванням темпоральної динаміки вподобань користувачів, подальшу деталізацію пояснень по інтервалам часу на основі узгодження темпоральних знань, а також формування інтерфейсу деталізованих пояснень з відображенням базових змін уподобань користувачів та альтернативних змін на визначених інтервалах часу. У практичному плані технологія орієнтована на підвищення довіри споживача до отриманої рекомендації на основі відображення збільшення попиту на рекомендовані товари. Використання технології забезпечує формування для користувача раціонального підтвердження рекомендації у вигляді комбінації кількісних та якісних показників, що сприяє збільшенню продажів у відповідній системі електронної комерції

Data-driven digital memory applications lack predefined navigation paths and strict hierarchical structures. They are based on large collections of memory items that can become overwhelming to users. Recommender systems can improve user experience through the proposal of personalized relevant items. However, very little academic literature has been dedicated to discussing this type of filtering of digital memory resources and the provision of customized contents to active users. In this paper, an architecture of a hybrid enhanced recommender (HER) system, which integrates collaborative filtering and content based filtering techniques and resolves most of the weaknesses of the individual approaches. This architecture also proposes an ontology to build semantic user profiles and represent memory items to mitigate the lack of semantics of traditional content-based method. Through combining those techniques, this architecture has the potential to cope with data sparsity problems, avoid overspecialization issues and partially resolve cold start problems.
