Trends and Innovations of Simulation for Twenty First Century Medical Education

Abstract: In the last two decades there has been an enormous growth in the use of clinical simulation. This teaching-learning methodology is currently the main tool used in the training of healthcare professionals. Clinical simulation is in tune with new paradigms in education and is consistent with educational theories that support the use of experiential learning. It promotes the development of psychomotor skills and strengthens executive functions. This pedagogical approach can be applied in many healthcare topics an… Show more

“…Medical education should integrate hands-on experience and simulation-based training. 15 Before working with actual patients, medical students can practice clinical skills and procedures in controlled environments, such as simulation centers and high-fidelity mannequins. These changes provide a safe and effective way for students to develop clinical skills and gain experience in various medical scenarios.…”

“…Simulation-based training is being used increasingly in medical education. 5,6 Organising a simulation session in simulation centres takes a long time to prepare and arrange, as well as being able to book the facility as it is a sought-after resource. It is a lot more challenging to orchestrate 'ad hoc' simulation sessions for these reasons.…”
