Trend Analysis of Coverage Variation in Pinus yunnanensis Franch. Forests under the Influence of Pests and Abiotic Factors

Abstract: The Yunnan pine (Pinus yunnanensis Franch.) is one of the primary forest vegetation types in Yunnan Province and has prominent economic value and ecological significance. Monitoring changes in Yunnan pine forests contributes to their health management. The normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) is an essential indicator for studying regional vegetation change. Landsat images were used to analyze the NDVI changes of Yunnan pine forests in rainy and dry seasons as well as the NDVI changes of Yunnan pine… Show more

“…Of all the vegetation indices selected, NDVI is most commonly used to assess the severity of forest pests and diseases and to estimate tree mortality [31][32][33][34]. Like NDVI, PSND and REP utilize only the red and near-infrared bands.…”

“…In realty, there are many other factors that can influence the distribution of species (Ramachandran et al, 2020). For example, pests, diseases, and human activities are also important factors affecting the distribution of P. yunnanensis (Huang et al, 2022;Liu et al, 2022). Further research is needed in order to better evaluate the factors effecting the distribution of P. yunnanensis and predict the dynamic in its distribution changes.…”

“…Also, consideration of environmental factors is of great importance in understanding the state, stability, and ecological role of forest stands [56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63]. It is especially important for protection and restoration of forest ecosystems [64][65][66] as well as in their management [67][68][69]. Accounting for the data obtained on the bioecological features of forest stands and environmental conditions are of paramount importance in managing the resource qualities of forest ecosystems, their stability and protection in forest-steppe and other landscapes.…”
