“…It is this host (or hosts) that is (are) important in determining the distribution and abundance of the parasite species. The starry flounder is known to serve as host to several of the parasite species considered here, including T. lindbergi, B. ozaki, P. atomon, E. lageniformis, and C. annulatus (Pratt and McCauley, 1961;Love and Moser, 1983). If the starry flounder was an important host species in Yaquina Bay, its reduced numbers there could be at least a partial explanation for the observed parasite population changes.…”

“…dienteros in either one. Similarly, Pratt and McCauley (1961) listed a toad, Bufo boreas Baird and Girard, as a host of 0 . dienteros because Sumwalt (1926) stated, in reference to specimens recovered from Bufo boreas boreas Baird and Girard, that "The circumstantial evidence suggests that ,the toad fluke is identical with the snake fluke: finding its natural habitat in the toad; but also able occasionally, though with diminished vigor, to parasitize the snake."…”

“…Subsequently, D. cholaeum (Syn. Deretrema pooli Annereaux, 1947) has been reported infecting the bile duct, gall bladder, and intestine of unidentified species of Sebastes in the NE Pacific Ocean from off British Columbia and Santa Cruz, California (Annereaux, 1947;Yamaguti, 1958Yamaguti, , 1971Pratt and McCauley, 1961;Chapa, 1969Chapa, , 1976Moser, 1976, 1983;Margolis and Arthur, 1979;Gibson, 1996).
