Treatment results and prognostic factors of patients undergoing postoperative radiotherapy for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Postoperative radiotherapy (PRT) is widely advocated for patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck that are considered to be at high risk of recurrence after surgical resection. The aims of this study were to evaluate the treatment outcomes of PRT for patients with laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the value of several prognostic factors. We reviewed the records of 256 patients treated for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 1993 and December 2005. Disease-free survival (DFS) … Show more

“…Primary site of LSCC was also associated with survival results. The prognosis of supraglottic laryngeal cancer was poorer than that of subglottic and supraglottic cancer, which possibly due to common cervical lymph node metastasis in supraglottic laryngeal cancer [37]. In our study, survival results of patients undergoing partial laryngectomy was better than patients undergoing total laryngectomy.…”

“…In recent years, the incidence of LSCC and other types of malignant tumours has been increasing year by year, while the survival rates of patients with LSCC have improved with advances in medical technology for LSCC, such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and targeted therapy; however, the complications after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy still afflict patients with LSCC ( Jin et al, 2011 ). Therefore, understanding LSCC from a molecular perspective is particularly important ( Huang et al, 2020 ).…”
