“…4,7,17,19 Open reduction of subtrochanteric fractures is associated with 17 to 23% of non-unions, with 29% of patients needing bone grafting. 1,4,20 Indirect reduction enables faster healing, lower nonunion and infection rates, earlier full weight bearing, and avoids bone grafting. 4,7 In our study, 100% union rate was achieved without bone grafting (p<0.001, Chi squared test, Table), which is similar to other series with union 7,8,16,21 This is because stripping of the soft tissues around the lateral cortex is minimal and the vitality of the medial fragment is not compromised further.…”
