Vitiligo is a chronic pigmentary disease with complex etiology, the signs of which are caused by the destruction of melanocytes in the epidermis, leading to the lack of melanin pigment responsible for skin coloration. The treatment of vitiligo, which aims at repigmentation, depends both on the clinical characteristics of the disease as well as on molecular markers that may predict the response to treatment. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the clinical evidence for vitiligo cell-based therapies taking into account the required procedures and equipment necessary to carry them out as well as their effectiveness in repigmentation, assessed using the percentage of repigmentation of the treated area. This review was conducted by assessing 55 primary clinical studies published in PubMed and ClinicalTrails.gov between 2000 and 2022. This review concludes that the extent of repigmentation, regardless of the treatment method, is highest in stable localized vitiligo patients. Moreover, therapies that combine more than one cell type, such as melanocytes and keratinocytes, or more than one method of treatment, such as the addition of NV-UVB to another treatment, increase the chances of >90% repigmentation. Lastly, this review concludes that various body parts respond differently to all treatments.

El vitíligo se considera como un trastorno de susceptibilidad genética, caracterizada por la despigmentación de la piel a causa le deficiencia de melanocitos funcionales, dando lugar a la formación de manchas despigmentadas, especialmente en el rostro, axilas y áreas expuestas. A nivel mundial el vitiligo se observa entre el 0.5% y 2% de la población, siendo el más frecuente de los desórdenes de la despigmentación (Speeckaert et al., 2017). El principal objetivo de este trabajo es recopilar y exponer datos actualizados sobre la caracterización de los aspectos clínicos y el tratamiento en los pacientes con vitíligo, incluyendo también aquellos conceptos fundamentales y aspectos relevantes para una mayor comprensión. Para llevar a cabo la elaboración de este artículo se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las siguientes bases de datos: Redalyc, Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, del mismo modo, como motor de búsqueda se usó Google Académico. Se concluye destacando la importancia de lo variable y complejo que puede llegar a ser esta condición. Mediante la información obtenida de esta indagación, hemos podido revisar y destacar lo relevante sobre la etiología y clasificación del vitiligo, asi como haber alcanzado una mayor comprensión sobre varios aspectos íntimamente relacionados como: la genética, estrés oxidativo, factor ambiental y inmunidad, además se ha podido documentar aspectos diagnósticos y el tratamiento que se maneja actualmente.

Introduction Vitiligo is an acquired pigmentary disorder, which is usually progressive and irreversible if left untreated. Structured databases such as registries are required to continuously collect standard data about patients with the same disease. Objectives This study aimed to design and implement a vitiligo registry and evaluate its usability in Iran. Methodology This research was conducted in four stages: determining the minimum data set required for the registry, creating a conceptual model using unified modeling language diagrams and Sparx Enterprise Architect software, implementing the registry in the PhpStorm programming environment, and evaluating the software usability based on the responses of 17 end users to a questionnaire. Results The required data items, consisting of 127 items in eight categories, were approved by the experts and used to design the vitiligo registry. Then, the software was designed and implemented. In the assessment stage, the software received a 89.5% approval rate from its users. Conclusion Developing a vitiligo registry with high usability as well as making decisions based on the registry data can improve understanding of the disease and facilitate research in this field. As a result, high-quality services could be provided to patients nationwide.
