Treatment of Particulate Matter Pollution: People’s Attitude and Readiness to Act

Abstract: The paper displays results of the questionnaire called “Particulate matter pollution in air”, which serves as a tool to determine level of public awareness of the health risks related to pollution from small capacity heating equipment in households. Barriers for installation of the innovative flue gas treatment technology called a fog unit in households and possible mechanisms to decrease or prevent these barriers were defined. The first part of the questionnaire included overall information about participants… Show more

“…At last, webbased knowledge (I13) compares the consumers' accessibility to information from the web. This indicator is explained by the importance of the public awareness [75] and expresses the differences in the amount of news accessible from the web. The indicator was structured in a way that three combinations of browser and web search engines were used (i.e., Mozilla Firefox and Google, Google Chrome and Google, Microsoft Edge and Bing) to query 54 tags that included the Italian words for: 'Sardinia', 'biogas', 'biomethane', 'upgrading', 'membrane', 'amine', 'scrubber', 'biological methanation', 'biomethanation', and the names of four of the most popular Sardinian television channels.…”

“…Accordingly, scientific community reasons that it is not enough only to limit or prevent the pollution but it is equally important to develop new methods to neutralise pollutants which are already present in the environment [7]. This ultimate change in the paradigm of the environment sustainability has made environment and climate research much more multidisciplinary with the significant emphasis on rising of public awareness [8], development and applications of new highly efficient technologies [9] and functional materials. For instance, catalysts make up the class of functional materials that are used to enable or favour the formation of the desired products and/or to suppress the formation of undesirable by-products.…”
