Lymphangiomas (LMs) are uncommon congenital malformations of the lymphatic system, with an estimated incidence of one in 2,000 to 4,000 live births.1 About half of these lesions are diagnosed at birth, and by two years of age, 90% of those with lesions have been diagnosed.2 Histologically, LMs are benign lesions; however, they can pose a serious threat to the patient due to possible growth into surrounding structures, sometimes causing life-threatening complications. Treatment of large head and neck lymphangiomas in young infants is very challenging, due to the risk of surgical complications. Further challenges include the limited volume of blood loss that infants can tolerate, the lack of the option for radiotherapy or radiosurgery, and the high chance of life-threatening complications if the LM is not treated. Here, we report a case of a two-month-old baby girl presenting with a large head and neck lymphangioma. She was successfully treated with intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injections, followed by surgical resection of the lesion.

Lymphangiomas are rare benign, hamartomatous, congenital malformations of the lymphatic system involving the skin and subcutaneous tissues of head, neck and oral cavity. Occasional adult onset cases occur, this condition is thought to be a developmental malformation of lymph vessels which have poor communication with normal lymph system. Most of these malformations are present at birth or appear within two years of life. 75 % of cases occur in head and neck area, submandibular and parotid being the most affected parts. Lymphangioma arising in nasopharynx and in an adult has not been reported in english literature. This prompted us to report the very first case of Lymphangioma Nasopharynx.

Congenital chylothorax (CC) is the most common cause of pleural effusion in the perinatal period. The etiology is unknown in the majority of the cases. However, in some cases, it can be associated with various syndromes and genetic conditions. CC is associated with a high mortality rate. Most of the clinical manifestations are secondary to pressure effects (pulmonary hypoplasia) and loss of protein and lymphatic fluid (hydrops, malnutrition). Conservative management in the neonatal period is effective in up to 80% of cases and includes pleural drainage, parenteral nutrition/enteral medium-chain triglyceride-based formulae, and medications such as octreotide. Surgical intervention (pleurodesis, thoracic duct ligation/embolization, pleuroperitoneal shunt) may be required in persistent cases. A universal consensus on management of CC is unavailable, and data on the safety of medication use for CC in neonates are sparse.
