Treatment of Low Back Pain

Abstract: Low back pain is among the most common symptoms seen in primary care clinics. 1 The management of LBP depends on its etiology, duration, presence of radiculopathy, and radiologic or physical examination findings. 2 Most episodes of LBP are acute (lasting <4 weeks), with no clearly identifiable underlying cause. 3 Low back pain is considered subacute if it persists for 4 to 12 weeks and chronic if it lasts longer than 12 weeks. 2 Because non-evidence-based management of LBP is associated with medical overuse an… Show more

“…12 In intractable cases in which pain is persistent and fails to respond to any treatment, surgery is advised. 5,8 One of the most common types of surgery is microdiscectomy, which is the surgical removal of part of the disc, performed with the use of an operating microscope or other magnifying tools. 13 Other minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as endoscopic surgery, have recently been developed and are being a standard practice in many centers.…”

“…1,4 Most sciatica cases can be treated conservatively with rest, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and physiotherapy. 5 Failure of conservative management is usually considered in the case of continuity of the pain for at least six weeks. 4,6 On the other hand, the exact timing needed for the patient to stay on the conservative care before switching to another treatment method has not been appropriately evaluated.…”

“…1 LBP management is dependent upon its etiology, pain duration, presence of radiculopathy as well as the findings of radiology or physical examination. 2 The differential diagnosis has a fundamental role in achieving therapeutic success. 3 Moreover, the findings of diagnostic imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), often do not correlate with the subjective symptoms of LBP.…”

“…1,12,13 A common medical approach for lumbar pain from FJS is anti-inflammatory drugs, myorelaxants, "lumbar corsets", and rehabilitation but, in many cases, the lumbar pain remains. 1,2,14,15 Recently, ozone therapy (OT) based on intraarticular injection of ozone has shown good efficacy in lumbar-disk herniation if more conservative management fails or antiinflammatory agents are contraindicated. 16,17 Alexander et al showed that 80% of patients had good outcomes after ozone injection in herniated cervical disks.…”

“…Needle EMG is considered most sensitive tool to reveal active denervation in the distribution of the involved nerve root, and neurogenic-appearing voluntary motor units in more chronic radiculopathies (7,8,9) Present therapeutics i.e.-traction , cervical collar or abdominal belt ,transdermal steroid injection , epidural injection, analgesics, calcium supplementation ,vitamin D3 supplementation ,fails to ensure cure in all the cases thus a therapeutic regime containing herbal neuro rejuvenator been evaluated for its clinical efficacy and safety profile . (10,11,12,13,14) Objective of the study Ascertain clinical efficacy and safety profile of herbal neuro rejuvenator containing regime in patients of radiculitis non responsive to existing therapeutics . Duration of study January 1014 to December 2016 with 2 years rigorous follow up from January 2017-December 2018 for post therapy symptom withdrawal or any drug adversity .…”
