Treatment of febrile seizures

Abstract: Objective: to review basic concepts of febrile seizures and the indications of specific tests. To analyze the prognosis and the medical treatment. Sources: the author reviewed the literature and presented her published data. Summary of the findings: the key points are based on the rules of the American Academy of Pediatrics designed according to a consensus about when and how to investigate febrile seizures, and indications of treatment. Conclusions: febrile seizure is a benign entity and most children will pr… Show more

“…A low threshold, probably initiated from a combination between increased excitation and reduced inhibition, in addition to other maturational differences in subcortical circuits. 8 Vaccines and febrile seizures have a strong association, both febrile and afebrile seizures can happen after immunization. 6,7,9 A significant association was found between Iron deficiency anemia and febrile seizures.…”

“…Approximately 2-5% of children are estimated to experience at least 1 epileptic seizure during a febrile illness before they are 5 yr old. The incidence of febrile seizures varies between 2% and 4% in Western countries, whereas the incidence is 7% in Japan and higher in developing countries [2-4]. …”

“…However, a variety of factors are considered to be involved in pathogenesis of febrile seizure such as genetic factors, 1 family backgrounds, 2 iron deficiency 3,4 immunologic disorders 7 and zinc deficiency. 5,6 Limited numbers of studies have been conducted regarding the role of zinc in occurrence of febrile seizures.…”

“…But electrolyte imbalance, hereditary metabolic disorder, genetic factor; neurologic problem, and iron deficiency, immunologic problem and zinc deficiency may play a role in febrile seizure. [3][4][5] Zinc one of the most important elements in the body that is necessary to abundance in central brain system can be found on the division and distinction between cells that is effective will eventually lead to a brain system will be natural. More on cheap in the brain are connected to that role very important construction and functional .it is also an important cofactor for different enzyme such as DNA and RNA polymerases.…”
