Treatment of Distal Radius Fracture With the Use of Calcium Phosphate Bone Cement as a Filler

Abstract: Ⅲ ABSTRACTA new procedure for unstable fractures of the distal radius is presented. It uses a nonbridging external fixator in conjunction with calcium phosphate bone cement through a limited exposure. The best indication for the new procedure is intra-articular fracture with some large displaced fragments in young adults. In the C2 or C3 type fractures according to AO classification, it is very difficult to obtain satisfactory fixation with a plate and screws due to comminution of the articular surface and met… Show more

“…A role in the disorganization of cement is represented by the radiopaque substance added to the cement components for the radiological examination of the target segment [18,19]. These substances, such as barium salts and metal oxides, reduce the mechanical properties of cement.…”

After mixing, the paste will be loaded into a pressure gun or a syringe to be applied [19]. The application period is when the paste reaches half the maximum temperature, and takes 8-10 min.…”

“…49,[83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90] An equal number of studies (4%, 9/213) mentioned the definition of an unstable distal radius fracture according to Cooney (severe comminution; intra-articular components and severe displacement defined as >20°dorsal angulation and > 10 mm of radial shortening). 27,42,44,[91][92][93][94][95][96] All other type of descriptions were mentioned in only three studies (1%) or less.…”
