Treatment of cryotherapy and orthotopic transplantation following chondromyxoid fibroma of zygomatic bone

Abstract: Introduction:Chondromyxoid fibrotherma (CMF) is a rare benign cartilage tumor that occurs more frequently in young males at the age of 20 to 30. It occurs more frequently on long bones, but rarely involves craniofacial bones.Case presentation:This study mainly introduced a 30-year-old male with CMF of zygomatic bone. Single tumor excochleation was conducted initially. However, CMF reoccurred, and then the following steps were adopted: firstly, the tumor was extensively excised; secondly, in vitro tumor excochl… Show more

“…CF is a rare bone tumor and represents less than 1% of all bone tumors, the tibia and distal femur are the most frequent locations, the maxillofacial bones are rarely affected, with the mandible as a site of predilection [ 1 ], the zygomatic location is extremely rare with only eight cases reported in litterature to our knowledge [ [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] , [8] ].…”

“…In this case we report a rare presentation of chondromyxoid fibroma involving the zygomatic bone, to our knowledge only 8 cases of zygomatic CMF have been reported in the literature [ [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] , [8] ].…”

“…Synthetic or plate reconstruction after tumor excision is generally performed to protect the brain and fill bone defects, but there are sometimes cosmetic issues, and the complications, such as infection, or motor impairment due to brain damage, cannot be denied. Tumor excision of skull lesions and reconstruction using a frozen autograft treated with liquid nitrogen have been rarely reported [ 26 28 ]. However, this cryotherapy treatment and orthotopic transplantation method not only eliminates the tumor cells, but it also provides for bone filling which perfectly matches the same size as the bone defect, while also reducing the incidence rates of complications [ 19 , 20 , 26 28 ].…”

However, this cryotherapy treatment and orthotopic transplantation method not only eliminates the tumor cells, but it also provides for bone filling which perfectly matches the same size as the bone defect, while also reducing the incidence rates of complications [ 19 , 20 , 26 28 ]. The good histological efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for the primary lesion was observed in our case; thus, reconstruction using a frozen autograft treated with liquid nitrogen after tumor excision with a clear margin, was applied.…”
