Treatment of Coal Mine Acid Water Using Nf270 Membrane as Environmentally Friendly Technology

Abstract: Ex-mining pond water is widely used for the daily needs of the people these days, such as bathing, washing, and even drinking. Over time, it turns out that coal mine acid water has polluted the environment. The use of membrane technology to produce water that meets drinking water quality standards by the Minister of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010 can be a solution to this problem. The NF270 membrane is a membrane process between reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration, which has a lower flux and operating press… Show more

“…This is because soil stripping activities and the groundwater hydrological cycle also indirectly contribute to the Fe fluctuations of acid mine drainage. If stripping is carried out continuously, the Fe content will naturally increase, as well as during the rainy season, the Fe content will increase [4,6]. The Fe element of acid coal mine water in the other 9 locations (ST1,ST2,ST3,ST4,ST5,ST6,ST7,ST8 and ST9) has not met the feasibility because it has a value above 1 mg/L.…”

“…Therefore, we will switch from a water treatment system that uses the oxidation of manganese compounds to compounds that are insoluble in water and are easy to physically separate, using a high-order oxidation method. Although Mn in the compound MnCO 3 , Mn(OH) 2 has a valence of two, the substance is relatively difficult to dissolve in water but for compounds such as MnCl 2 , MnSO 4 has a large solubility in water [3,6].…”

“…Water treatment is currently carried out conventionally such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and filtration. Currently water treatment can be carried out using membrane technology (specifically nanofiltration and / or reverse osmosis) [Hidayah et al, 2018;Kiswanto et al, 2020]. Drinking water treatment that has been implemented in Indonesia in the form of conventional treatment consists of Coagulation-Flocculation, Sedimentation and Filtration.…”

“…Minimizing heavy metals can be done by membrane filtration, electrodialysis, chemical precipitation, exchange, ions, and adsorbs (Ahalya et al, 2003;Ismail & Moustafa, 2016;Kiswanto, Susanto, et al, 2020;Kiswanto et al, 2021). Heavy metal removal can also be done by coagulation, fluctuation, flotation, electrochemical treatment, ion chelating (Noor et al, 2019).…”
