Treatment of class III multiple gingival recessions: a randomized‐clinical trial

Abstract: One-year results indicate that the modified tunnel/CTG technique is predictable for the treatment of multiple class III recession-type defects. The addition of EMD does not enhance the mean clinical outcomes.

“…The better outcome of the regeneration process within time after the usage of EMD has been demonstrated by other studies (33,36,37). The statistically better results obtained in the test group (EMD+SCTG) of our study were not confirmed by the results of the test group (EMD+SCTG) of Aroca et al (35). There were methodological differences between the studies, especially in the demographic data and surgical technique.…”

“…There were methodological differences between the studies, especially in the demographic data and surgical technique. The surgical technique employed by Aroca et al (35) did not have vertical releasing incisions like in this study and involved papilla reconstruction, which was not performed in our study. According to Zucchelli et al (38), the lack of vertical releasing incisions reflects in better clinical outcomes, which could explain the higher level of root coverage obtained in the Aroca (35) study, where a modified tunnel/SCTG technique was used.…”

“…54 On the contrary, Cordaro et al 55 evaluated the additive effect of EMD on CAF for MAGR treatment and demonstrated high clinical success with CAF regardless of EMD for 24-month followup. Aroca et al 23 reported that the addition of EMD does not enhance the mean clinical outcomes of modified tunnel/SECTG technique for the treatment Class III MAGR. The use of EMD sets an example for the most recent approaches for RC therapies, which incorporates growth factors (GF) into previously defined techniques to enhance healing response and possibly promote regeneration.…”

“…Les récessions de classes I et II de Miller (1985) ayant un support parodontal interdentaire intact peuvent être totalement recouvertes avec une grande prévisibilité [13]. Toutefois, une étude récente de Aroca et al (2010) [14] avec ou sans adjonction des dérivés de la matrice amélaire [15]. La dimension de la récession semble être un facteur important à évaluer.…”
