Treatment of an Askin tumor: A case report and review of the literature

Abstract: Askin tumors are rare malignant neoplasms that are localized in the thoracopulmonary region and mainly occur in children and adolescents. Further investigation with regard to the effective treatment of this disease is required, since the disease has a low incidence and limited knowledge is available on the biological activity and prognostic factors of this type of tumor. The present study describes the case of a 30-year-old male patient with a histologically and morphologically proven Askin tumor who was treat… Show more

“…Chemotherapy includes vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide alternating with etoposide and IFM. (13) CONCLUSION Although Askin's tumours are difficult to distinguish from other sarcomas, only on imaging basis the differential of peripheral PNETs is to be considered when a heterogeneous mass is seen in thoracopulmonary region, especially with local invasion in young adults. The diagnosis is dependent upon histopathology and immunohistochemistry.…”

“…El tratamiento predominante es una combinación de QN, la resección quirúrgica radical, QA y radioterapia. Varios estudios han demostrado que esta terapia agresiva puede conducir a una supervivencia libre de recaída por mayor tiempo [9]. Este caso recibió QN, resección tumoral con márgenes oncológicos y QA.…”
