Treatment goal weight in adolescents with anorexia nervosa: Use of BMI percentiles

Abstract: Objective: There is a lack of consensus as to how to determine treatment goal weight in the growing adolescent with anorexia nervosa (AN). “…In postmenarcheal girls, resumption of menses provides an objective measure of biological health 100 ; in 1 recent study, resumption of menses occurred at a mean BMI percentile of 27; 75% of the girls resumed menstruating once they had achieved and sustained approximately the 40th percentile for BMI. 101 Resumption of menses can also be used to refine the treatment goal weight.…”
