Treatment failure prediction for head-and-neck cancer radiation therapy

Abstract: For patients with head-and-neck cancer treated with definitive radiation, we have developed a prediction nomogram based on models that presented good discriminative ability in making predictions of tumour response to treatment. The probability of treatment failure is higher for older patients with larger tumours treated with non-concomitant radiation.

“…A). Nevertheless, age and T stage were traditionally considered as risk factors for adjuvant radiotherapy in clinical practice . As a result, we constructed a nomogram to predict the clinical outcomes of 307 HNSCC patients with radiotherapy, and variables including age, T staging, and N staging were taken into consideration (Fig.…”

“…The aim of the latter is to improve the quality of patient's life without actually curing the primary disease. 5 Dentists have an important role in screening the head & neck cancer patient at an early stage. Patients who present with leukoplakia, especially speckled leukoplakia on buccal mucosa, gingivae, palate or floor of mouth, should be investigated thoroughly and referred to the specialist without any delay.…”
