Treatment Effect Analysis on Shallow Buried Bias Slope Section of Tunnel Based on Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation

Failures of treated slope occurring in China are at a continually increasing rate, and the huge number of treated loess slopes is calling for a postevaluation; however, no mature technique is in place. Based on an actual loess slope in Shaanxi Province treated by retaining wall, indoor geotechnical and model tests were conducted, revealing the rainwater infiltration process and pressure variations behind the wall, and the processes were then adopted to perform the postevaluation of the treated slope. The results proposed that effectual measures hence needed to be taken so as to avert rainwater infiltrating along the wall face and back or flowing through the wall body, which can soften the soil of the slope bottom. Although the wet front was developed by the rainfall process, it cannot be used as the boundary between saturated and unsaturated areas. Despite the peculiarly large soil pressure upon the wall back at the top layer, the soil pressure increases to a large value and then decreases with the depth. The model test results and investigation results were used to conduct the postevaluation of the prototype slope, which formed a postevaluation frame relevant to other slope postevaluations.

In the construction process of tunnel inlet sections, the rock mass can sustain unsymmetrical pressure due to asymmetrical terrain on the two sides of the tunnel. The fact that the inlet sections are usually under shallow buried conditions with strongly weathered rock mass exacerbates the issue. This paper discusses optimization strategies of the initial support of a shallow buried tunnel based on the analytical results of asymmetrical loading characteristics. Numerical simulation is performed with particle flow code (PFC) using the Jianshanji tunnel project as an example. The simulation results show that the bench excavation has slightly less total deformation than the full-section excavation but the deformation range is wider, especially in the tunnel arch. Both lining support and slope reduction treatments can effectively improve rock deformation, with lining support demonstrating better performance in controlling deformation and adjusting stress distribution. Based on the simulation results, the bench excavation and lining support are used in the actual project, and the corresponding optimization control measures were adopted to address deformation issues, including crushed-stone backfilling for compression resistance, advanced grouting reinforcement, and grouting. The field data show that the tunnel stability is effectively improved by adopting the optimization schemes, which further validates the effectiveness of the proposed unsymmetrical control method.

Depended on an loess slope in Shaanxi province treated by slope-cutting, indoor geotechnical and model tests were conducted, revealing the rainwater infiltration characteristics and pressure varying characteristics inside the slope, the results of which were then adopted to perform the post-evaluation of the treated slope. The results showed that the rainwater scouring effect on the loess slope surface attenuates gradually, and enters a steady stage after the first year of rainfall. The rainwater preferentially penetrates the platforms with gradually attenuating rates, however the wetting front can not be deemed as the boundary between the saturated and unsaturated areas, as the most parts of the model slope were indicated unsaturated by the pore water pressure sensors. Caused by the in-situ stress release, the soil pressures don’t increase but decrease sharply at the start of the rainfall. The displacements mainly occurs in the first two years of rainfall, following by steady periods. The model test results and investigation results were then used to conduct the post-evaluation of the prototype slope, which formed a post-evaluation frame relevant to other slope post-evaluations.
