Travail et dimension relationnelle chez des hommes : un espace ignoré mais réel

Abstract

La dimension relationnelle, point d’ancrage du cheminement de carrière féminin et source de sens à leur travail, se retrouve-t-elle chez des hommes ? Si oui, quelle en est la nature et le rôle ? Ce texte présente les résultats de ce volet d’une étude qualitative plus vaste portant sur les cheminements de carrière masculins. Il aborde en premier lieu la présence et la nature de la dimension relationnelle et ensuite le rôle qu’elle a joué dans le parcours de chacun des 12 participants volontaires âgés de 24 à 62 ans. Dans un contexte de mutation du monde du travail, les conclusions montrent un aspect moins connu de l’engagement professionnel d’hommes et conduisent à des pistes d’intervention en counseling d’orientation.For women, the relational dimension provides stability in their career paths and a source of meaning in their work. Do men rely on it too ? If so, what is its nature and role ? This article presents the findings from one component of a broader qualitative study on men’s career paths. The article deals first with the presence and nature of the relational dimension and then with the role it played in the career of each of the twelve study volunteers, whose ages range from 24 to 62. The article’s conclusions reveal a lesser known aspect of men’s professional involvement and suggest career counselling approaches in a changing work world
