Traumatic Pseudoaneurysm of the Ascending Cervical Artery Treated with N-butyl Cyanoacrylate Embolization: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract: Pseudoaneurysms of the thyrocervical trunk and its branches are commonly iatrogenic in nature; however, trauma is often an inciting mechanism. Open surgical repair was considered the main treatment modality until recent advances in endovascular therapy proved to be a viable treatment option. We report a case of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm arising from the ascending cervical artery with an associated arteriovenous fistula (AVF) that was treated using n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) embolization. The use of a liquid… Show more

“…The incorporation of elements like the ligamentum flavum using cardboard and the interspinous ligaments with string, although simplistic, effectively demonstrates the potential of low-cost materials in high-fidelity medical simulations. This approach not only aids in the understanding of complex spinal anatomy but also provides a safe, repeatable environment for skill enhancement [ 23 , 24 , 25 ].…”

“…The perforating branches of the BA are usually divided into short and long intrapontine terminals [ 32 ]. The short vessels mainly irrigated the middle part of the pyramidal branches.…”

“…Such knowledge not only benefits surgeons but also enhances the precision of diagnostic imaging and the effectiveness of non-surgical interventions [ 31 ]. The vertebrobasilar vascular system’s role in posterior fossa pathology is both critical and complex [ 32 ]. As surgical techniques continue to evolve, the need for a comprehensive understanding of this system’s anatomy and variations becomes increasingly important.…”

“…The transoral approach at the CCJ is traditionally used to treat rheumatoid pannus, some tumors with spinal cord compression, and basilar invagination [ 7 , 8 , 9 ]. It was first described in 1917 by Kanavel, who used it to remove a projectile at the CCJ.…”
