“…Feelings often experienced by Brazilian patients before limb amputation surgery include pain, guilt over poor self-care, anger, irritation with their destiny, fear of surgery, sadness, social reclusion, hope, and optimism (Gabarra, 2010). Feelings during rehabilitation include ambivalence between hope and desperation, fear of looking at the stub, fear of other amputations and infections, health vulnerability, and guilt over necessary changes in the family's routine (Campos & Sekiya, 2004;Chamlian, Varanda, Pereira, de Resende, & de Faria, 2013;Gabarra, 2010;Ozaki, Camargo Filho, Tarumoto, Celi, & Camargo, 2010). All of these emotions and feelings are relevant to the patient's body image (Harcourt & Rumsey, 2011), making it important for health professionals, especially those working with body movement such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physical educators, to know the impact of their interventions on their patient's body image.…”
