Tratamiento conservador en pacientes con síndrome del túnel carpiano con intensidad leve o moderada. Revisión sistemática

Abstract: Several conservative treatments are able to relieve symptoms and improve functional ability of patients with mild-to-moderate CTS. These include splinting, oral drugs, injections, electrotherapy, specific manual techniques, and neural gliding exercises as well as different combinations of the above. We have been unable to describe the best technique or combination of techniques due to the limitations of the studies; therefore, further studies of better methodological quality are needed.

“…However, severe symptoms could be present without electrophysiological abnormalities. In a systematic review [13], the effectiveness of the conservative treatment in patients with mild and/or moderate CTS was showed. The use of manual therapy, electrotherapy and pharmacological treatments (the most common techniques nowadays) was described, but no conclusion was given as to which of them was more effective.…”

“…Various systematic revisions have indicated that manual therapy is beneficial in improving function and symptoms in patients with peripheral neuropathies [15][16][17]. In a study with rats, Zhu et al [4] observed the impact of these oscillations on diabetic neuropathy using mobilisations of the sciatic nerve.…”

“…Almost half of work-related injuries involve CTS, the results of which cause interruption to work. Conservative methods should be applied in mild to moderate cases, while surgery is recommended for severe cases [1,2].…”

“…Entrapment neuropathies are of various types, but the most common type is CTS. Clinical symptoms include pain, numbness and weakness in the hands and ankles [1,2]. Mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of entrapment neuropathies include mechanical compression and nerve ischemia [3].…”
