“…It is clear that it is not American authors who have resistance or difficulty in declaration of LOE. While the current review is focused on the J Hand Surg Am and J Hand Surg Eur publications, several articles have been published reporting the LOE in other journals (Andersson et al., 2018; Boretto et al., 2019; Boyer et al., 2019; Ehrl et al., 2016; El Amiri et al., 2019; Frueh et al., 2014; Fujihara et al., 2018; Goorens et al., 2018; Hohendorff et al., 2017; 2018; Huttin et al., 2018; Kamphuis et al., 2019; Karakaplan et al., 2019; Ma et al., 2017; Mulders et al., 2017; Rijnja et al., 2017; Robinson et al., 2017; Tang et al., 2017; Thorkildsen and Rokkum, 2019; Uluyardimci et al., 2019; van Zyl et al., 2019; Wang et al., 2017; Yeo et al., 2015). “…Besides a significantly better ROM, pinch strength, DASH, pain relief and satisfaction, Cebrian-Gomez et al described a faster return to work in the Ivory prosthesis group [3]. Unlike the results of Cebrian-Gomez et al, Thorkildsen and Røkkum did not find any significant difference in DASH scores between TMC joint arthroplasty and trapeziectomy but did find better motion and strength in the prosthesis group [4].…”

“…Several studies have been published comparing total joint arthroplasty with trapeziectomy, but only reporting short-term results [1][2][3][4][5]. Jager et al described higher satisfaction, mobility, strength, pain reduction and functional scores in favor of the MAIA® total joint prosthesis [1].…”

“…The difference may diminish over time, but long-term studies indicate that better grip strength is sustained (Froschauer et al., 2020). Only one randomized study has been published that compared the Elektra prosthesis with trapeziectomy and ligament reconstruction (Thorkildsen and Rokkum, 2019). The patients with total joint replacement had a more rapid rehabilitation, but at 2 years there were no differences in functional results.…”
