Transverse momentum dependence ofJ/ψpolarization at midrapidity inp+pcollisions ats=200

Abstract: We report the measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of inclusive J=c polarization in p þ p collisions at ffiffi ffi s p ¼ 200 GeV performed by the PHENIX Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy IonCollider. The J=c polarization is studied in the helicity, Gottfried-Jackson, and Collins-Soper frames for p T < 5 GeV=c and jyj < 0:35. The polarization in the helicity and Gottfried-Jackson frames is consistent with zero for all transverse momenta, with a slight (1.8 sigma) trend towards longitudinal polar… Show more

“…2 that our NLO NRQCD predictions nicely describe the p T distributions from PHENIX [18] (a) and CMS [19] (b) as well as the W distributions from H1 [14,17] (c), with most of the data points falling inside the yellow (shaded) error band. In all these cases, inclusion of the NLO corrections tends to improve the agreement.…”

“…The polarization for inclusive J / ψ production (including the feed-down from higher charmonium states) in hadronic interactions has been measured by several experiments at Fermilab [22], Brookhaven [23] and DESY [24]. The CDF experiment, in collisions at , measured a small longitudinal J / ψ polarization, going to zero at small p T .…”
