Transurethral microwave thermotherapy in benign prostatic hyperplasia

Abstract: This article reviews the available literature and data on high-energy transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) causing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). TUMT is a safe, durable, (1-hour) procedure, without the need for anesthesia. Emphasis is made on the effect and mechanism of TUMT, the different devices available including different energy protocols, and accompanying clinical results.
