Summary The structural, electronic, magnetic, mechanical and thermodynamic properties of the Mn2PtCo Heusler alloy have been investigated in the frame work of density functional theory (DFT). The cohesive energies confirm the Cu2MnAl‐prototype structure of Mn2PtCo with the ferromagnetic phase. The spin polarized electronic band profile of the Mn2PtCo exhibits its metallic character by considering the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and modified Becke‐Johnson (GGA‐mBJ) approximation in the calculations. The magnetic moment is calculated to ~9 μB and it is in accordance with the Slater‐Pauling rule. From the analysis of mechanical properties the brittle nature is anticipated. Further to seek the applications of Mn2PtCo in device fabrication, the thermodynamic properties like entropy, heat capacity at constant volume, Debye temperature, Gruneisen parameter and thermal expansion coefficient within the temperature and pressure range of 0 to 1000 K and 0 to 24 GPa, respectively have also been estimated.

Heusler compounds are a large group of intermetallic compositions with versatile material properties. In recent times, they are found to be important for their practical applications in the fields of spintronics and shape memory effect. Interestingly, their physical properties can be easily tuned by varying the valence electron concentration through proper doping and substitution. Empirical laws concerning the valence electron concentration, such as Slater–Pauling or Hume-Rothery rules are found to be useful in predicting their electronic, magnetic and structural properties quite accurately. Electrical transport measurements are simple laboratory-based techniques to gather a handful of information on the electronic properties of metals and semiconductors. The present review aimed to provide a comprehensive view of the transport in 3d and 4d transition metal-based bulk Heusler compositions. The main emphasis is given on resistivity, magnetoresistance, Hall effect, thermopower and spin-dependent transport in spintronics devices. The review primarily focuses on magnetic Heusler compounds and alloys, albeit it also addresses several non-magnetic materials showing superconductivity or large thermopower.

The present investigation has been carried to know the magnetic talent, mechanical strength, thermoelectric transport properties, and thermal results on Rh2MnX (X = Sc, Ti, Zr) full‐Heusler alloys. The structural investigation presents these alloys to be stable in 225 (Fm‐3m) cubic space group. Electronic results characterize these alloys as metallic in both spin channels. From elastic data results, these compounds are found to be mechanically stable in cubic space group. The mechanical study shows ductile nature for Rh2MnSc while it is brittle for Rh2MnTi and Rh2MnZr. The large value of bulk modulus for these compounds presents their stiffer resistance. The temperature‐dependent thermoelectric transport properties for these materials are calculated. The increasing nature of Ke/τ for all the three compounds presents their conducting nature. Increasing value of power factor with temperature advocates the use of these materials for high‐temperature thermoelectric devices. All the three materials present a large value of total magnetic moment greater than 4 μB and hence can contribute to advanced magnetic materials. The thermodynamic investigation is carried out using Gibbs2 program.
