AbstractPurpose -The purpose of this paper is to find some feasible measures to solve the problems faced in China's renewable energy development and promote the industrial development of China's renewable energy. Design/methodology/approach -The paper summarises the status and studies the problems of China's renewable energy industrial development, and then puts forward some proposals for the industrial development.Findings -The paper finds that most of China's renewable energy technology is still in the transitional period from research and development to industrial production, and that the renewable energy industrial development needs the establishment of a series of technical experiments and demonstration projects to analyze and investigate the resources, the conversion and market development experience, and then form complete sets of equipment design and manufacturing, cultivation and collection of biomass resources and technology development capabilities, and that regulations should be established to provide a solid foundation for the large-scale development of China's renewable energy. As a result, some development measures are suggested in the paper. Originality/value -The paper raises the problems faced in China's renewable energy development, and gives some feasible development measures for the industrial development of China's renewable energy.

The culture of sustainable and clean energy has become a top priority in many countries globally partly due to the issue of climate change and energy paucity. Solar energy is one of the most adopted energy sources due to its clean nature and availability, especially in areas with high sunlight. Despite the apparent benefits, its adoption is relatively low, especially in developing countries such as Ghana. This study thus employs a quantitative approach to assess the awareness and adoptability of solar energy in Ghana. It reaches out to 412 respondents across all 16 regions of the country through survey questionnaires. The results indicate that the respondents' awareness of solar energy was high (97.1%) partly because most had formal education (first degree). 73.7% of the respondents indicated that they heard about it from the media (news, radio, and outdoor adverts). Also, 87% were willing to adopt solar energy for their homes should there be a flexible loan facility that could be paid for over 10 years. It was also discovered that the level of education has an impact on awareness and adoption of solar energy. This study recommends that stakeholders should prioritise mechanisms to increase solar energy awareness, and a viable financial scheme must be made available to help boost the adoption of solar energy in Ghana. Additionally, efforts must be made by stakeholders to train hands-on technicians to boost adopter confidence. This study is expected to serve as a resourceful reference for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders.

This paper develops a mixed method approach to infrastructure planning through a United Kingdom (UK) case study examining the impact of a changing climate on long distance travel and mobility between London and Glasgow. A novel combination of a qualitative method -Systematic Qualitative Foresight (SQF) -and quantitative simulation using discrete choice stated preference methods is applied. The main dataset is a travel behaviour survey of over 2,000 residents of London and Glasgow. Three illustrative SQF-based scenarios are developed incorporating society, technology and climate dimensions. For each scenario, the choice of long-distance travel mode by two groups of respondents generated by cluster analysis is simulated using stated preference survey data to describe the choices likely to be made by actors within each scenario.We demonstrate the importance of considering a wide range of variables when creating instruments for infrastructure planning decisions. Our results show that weather-related disruption has consequences for travel behaviour, with a considerable number of travellers deciding not to travel despite the importance of their trip. However, the vast majority of travellers would still travel. This should be considered by policy makers, and those responsible for transport infrastructure, in order to increase its resilience to extreme weather and demand, and better devise contingencies plans to contain, and minimise, the effect of the disruptions on the users. The method described has wider implications for infrastructure planning, particularly in its ability to engage a broader range of stakeholders and to avoid linear models of prediction. By emphasising the creation of a plausible decision space, it offers the possibility of increased robustness and resilience in infrastructure planning.
