Transplantation of solid organs recovered from deceased donors recently infected by SARS-CoV-2 in the United States

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced access to solid organ transplantation, compounding organ shortages and waitlist mortality. A continued area of uncertainty is the safety of transplanting organs recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infected donors, as autopsies of patients who died with COVID-19 show that the virus can be found in extra-pulmonary organs.
