Transparent Synthetic Soil and Its Application in Modeling of Soil-Structure Interaction Using Optical System

Abstract: This article introduces the uses of transparent synthetic soil for geotechnical problems using optical system, including transparent materials, sample preparation, geotechnical properties, experimental methods, and applications in physical modeling. Four typical kinds of transparent synthetic soil are shown and compared. For amorphous silica powder, normally the consolidated amorphous silica has a higher normalized strength but a lower modulus than the natural clays. For amorphous silica gels, the stressstrain… Show more

“…It can be seen from Table 9 that, in the case of three plate widths and three circular cross sections, the calculated force of the blockage per unit plate width differs very little, which shows that the force of the blockage has no certain relationship with the width of the steel plate and the circular section size. e problem of gate clogging can be simplified to a two-dimensional problem [10].…”

“…e stability of rock strata and the safety of buildings in the intersecting area have become the focus and difficulty of research. More and more scholars will transfer the research center to the stability analysis of the building under the subway [7][8][9]. e stability analysis and emergency reinforcement treatment of the subway shield tunnel under existing structures are common.…”

“…en, this frozen layer operates as a supporting and water insulation layer so that the tunnel can be excavated through the mining method. Although the artificial freezing method which is applied in cross passage freezing projects [9][10][11][12][13] is a relatively mature technology, further studies are required to determine the influence of different geological and surrounding environment conditions [14,15] on the key technical indices, including the thickness and average temperature of the frozen wall.…”
