Amorphous chalcogenide thin films of Ge25S75 composition have been deposited by spin-coating technique. Optical properties of thin films were investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry in UV-MIR spectral range. Obtained results prove increase of thin films refractive index in the transparent region and decrease of their thickness with increasing annealing temperature implying densification of the glass structure. Short wavelength absorption edge is shifting to lower energies (red shift) with increasing annealing temperature. Decreasing organic molecules content with increasing temperature of annealing was observed in MIR part of extinction coefficient and verified by Raman spectroscopy and EDS. Raman spectra also gave evidence of thermo-induced structural polymerization and decomposition of organic salts molecules yielding thin films with structure similar to the structure of the source bulk glass.

Improvement of Mechanical Properties and Self-Healing Efficiency by Ex-Situ Incorporation of TiO2 Nanoparticles to a Waterborne Poly(Urethane-Urea)

This research work was focused on the incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles into synthesized solvent-free waterborne poly(urethane-urea) (WPUU) based on hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PU0) in order to improve both the mechanical properties and self-healing effectiveness of a polymer matrix. The incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles resulted in a successful enhancement of the mechanical properties of nanocomposite films when compared to PU0. Simultaneously, the obtained nanocomposite films did not only maintain the self-healing ability of the PU0 film, measured by means of mechanical properties after successive cutting/recovery cycles, but they also showed a higher self-healing efficiency than the PU0 film. Moreover, the well-dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles, visualized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), kept their conductive properties when embedded in the PU0 matrix, as was confirmed by electrostatic force microscopy (EFM). This research work described a simple and industrially appealing way to control the dispersion of commercially available TiO2 nanoparticles in waterborne poly(urethane-urea) for the designing of inorganic/organic hybrid nanocomposites with enhanced mechanical properties and self-healing efficiency, in which TiO2 nanoparticles preserved their conductive properties within the polymer matrix.

In this article, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT's) were coated by poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) soft layer. PTMO was used for preparing segmented polyurethane (PU) films as well. PTMO-grafted CNT was utilized for loading into the PTMO-based segmented PU films in three different contents, i.e., 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 wt.%. All PU-CNT nanocomposites were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The resulting nanocomposites were also investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA).
