Transmission of IP over Ethernet over IEEE 802.16 Networks

Abstract: This document describes the transmission of IPv4 over Ethernet, as well as IPv6 over Ethernet, in an access network deploying the IEEE 802.16 cellular radio transmission technology. The Ethernet on top of IEEE 802.16 is realized by bridging connections that IEEE 802.16 provides between a base station and its associated subscriber stations. Due to the resource constraints of radio transmission systems and the limitations of the IEEE 802.16 Media Access Control (MAC) functionality for the realization of an Ether… Show more

“…For each TCP group, equation (12) relates the TCP average sending rate with the packet drop probability via the AF PHB buffer. As the packet drop probability depends on the flow group l, the equation must be formulated for each TCP traffic profile group separately.…”

“…All SSs and MSs can then use multiple IPv6 addresses under their individual subnetwork prefixes. Jeon et al [10] provide recommendations for IPv4 and IPv6 operation over the Ethernet CS. The Ethernet network model for IEEE 802.16-based deployments is presented and some means for performance enhancements are also provided.…”

“…These management mechanisms and related protocols are still under development by the WiMAX Forums Networking Group. There are some unresolved issues with the use of mCID [11] [15], namely the reduced transmission efficiency of mCIDs for small multicast groups, the missing support for unidirectional broadcast channels, and the existence of additional security threats associated with broadcast channels in a power-conservative wireless system.…”
