The use of textual list of items, e.g., products, subjects, books, etc., is widely popular and linguistically legible. This motivates the development of List-Based Steganography Methodology (Listega). Listega takes advantage of such use of textual list to camouflage data by exploiting itemized data to conceal messages. Simply, it encodes a message then assigns it to legitimate items in order to generate a textcover in a form of list. The generated list of items, the textcover, can be embedded among other legitimate noncoded items for more protection based on a predetermined protocol among communicating parties such as read every other item, every fifth item, or any other way than the use of particular sequence. Listega neither hides data in a noise (errors) nor produces noise. Instead, it camouflages data by manipulating noiseless list of legitimate items. Listega establishes a covert channel among communicating parties by employing justifiably reasons based on the common practice of using textual list of items in order to achieve unsuspicious transmission of generated covers. The presented implementation, validation, and steganalysis of Listega demonstrate: the robustness capabilities of achieving the steganographic goal, the adequate room for concealing data, and the superior bitrate of roughly 1.32 up to 3.87% than contemporary linguistic steganography approaches.

RESUMEN: La esteganografía lingüística es una ciencia que se aprovecha de la lingüística computacional para diseñar sistemas útiles en la protección y la privacidad de las comunicaciones digitales y en el marcado digital de textos. En los últimos años se han documentado múltiples formas de alcanzar este objetivo. En este artículo se analiza la posibilidad de generar automáticamente textos en lenguaje natural en lengua española que oculten una información dada. Se proponen una serie de hipótesis y se experimenta mediante la implementación de un algoritmo. Las pruebas realizadas indican que es factible utilizar modelos N-Gram y peculiaridades derivadas de la ley de Zipf para generar estegotextos con una calidad lingüística tal que un lector humano podría no diferenciarlo de otro texto auténtico. Los estegotextos obtenidos permitirán la ocultación de al menos 0,5 bits por palabra generada.PALABRAS CLAVE: Esteganografía lingüística; generación automática de estegotextos; N-Gram; algoritmo.ABSTRACT: Linguistic Steganography is a science that utilises computational linguistics to design systems that can be used to protect and ensure the privacy of digital communications and for the digital marking of texts. Various proposed ways of achieving this goal have been documented in recent years. This paper analyses the possibility of generating natural language texts in Spanish that conceal information automatically. A number of hypotheses are put forward and tested using an algorithm. Experimental evidence suggests that it is feasible to use N-gram models and specific features of the Zipf law to generate stegotexts with a good linguistic quality where human readers could not differentiate the stegotext from authentic texts. The stegotexts obtained allow the concealment of at least 0.5 bits per word generated.

RESUMEN:La lingüística computacional puede ser aprovechada junto a la ciencia de la esteganografía lingüística para diseñar sistemas útiles en la protección/privacidad de las comunicaciones digitales y en el marcado digital de textos. No obstante, para poder llevar a cabo tal tarea se requiere de una serie de condiciones que no siempre se dan. En este artículo se investiga si es posible diseñar procedimientos que permitan ocultar información en lenguaje natural utilizando la mínima cantidad de recursos tanto lingüísticos como computacionales. Se propone un algoritmo y se implementa, razonando posteriormente a favor de la utilidad y la seguridad de propuestas de este tipo.PALABRAS CLAVE: Esteganografía lingüística; marcado digital; NLW; algoritmo. ABSTRACT:Computational linguistics and linguistic steganography could allow to design useful systems in the protection / privacy of digital communications and digital language watermarking. However, building these systems is not always possible provided a series of conditions are not met. This article investigates whether it is possible to design procedures to hide information in natural language using minimal linguistic and computational resources. An algorithm is proposed and implemented, arguing for the usefulness and security of such proposals.
