Translating Cancer Prevention and Control Research into the Community Setting: Workforce Implications

Abstract: A gap exists between cancer prevention research and its translation into community practice. Two strategies to reduce this gap are community-based participatory research (CBPR) and dissemination research. CBPR offers an avenue to engage academic and community partners, thereby providing mechanisms for joint learning and application of knowledge. Dissemination research examines the movement of evidence-based public health and clinical innovations to practice settings. While applying these approaches may reduce … Show more

Six reviews [2,35,58,64,68,79] used a mixed-methods approach, indicating that the literature review was combined with another type of study design (e.g. interview study, case study, Delphi study).…”

“…However, the practical application of research remains challenging for both researchers and practitioners. Community engagement has been largely successful in bridging the gap between researchers and community practitioners (9,10). A forum is needed to allow both to engage in an ongoing dialogue about their mutual goal of improving lives by putting research into practice in the field.…”
