Transient state analysis of a doubly-fed induction generator under three phase short circuit

Abstract: The Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFG) is a Variable-Speed Constant-Frequency Generator operating in either subsynchronous or supersynchronous mode. In this paper the transient behavior of the Doubly Fed Induction Generator, symmetrically loaded, after a three phase short circuit is presented. Both speed and rotor excitation voltage and frequency remain unchanged during short circuit. The complete mathematical model of the transient state and experimental results are given as well as the transient state equi… Show more

“…One important issue for the determination is generator's fault currents, which are analyzed in [14]- [15]. Moreover, after the crowbar is deactivated, to make the control of DFIG wind turbine resume without introducing instability problem, some strategies should be adopted, some of which are proposed in.…”

“…Short circuit currents of different types of wind turbines show significant differences due to the different control strategies in [16][17][18][19], which can have a great impact on the protection setting. According to the flux balance equations and frequency-domain analysis, mathematical expressions of the short circuit current for doubly-fed induct generator (DFIG) are derived without considering the effect of the crowbar [20,21]. However, the short circuit current characteristics will be different when crowbar circuit is used in DFIG wind turbines [22,23].…”

“…In the published literature, some of them mainly focused on the electromagnetic transient models [3,4] unsuitable for transient stability analysis of large-scale power system. As for the applications of the electromechanical transient model of DFIG in an existing power system [8][9][10], some studied test systems were too simple and the impact of dynamic load model was neglected during simulations.…”

“…So far, much literature related to transient stability analysis of power system with high penetration of gridconnected wind farms of DFIG type have been studied in [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Vicatos, Tegopoulos [3] and Senjyu et al [4] discussed the transient characteristics of wind farm during the three-phase short circuit condition. Jenkins et al [5] and Shi et al [6] studied dynamic mathematical model of DFIG suitable for transient stability analysis.…”
