“…TGA episodes often occur while the patient is driving, and witnesses consistently report that this does not interfere in any obvious way with the control of the automobile. During TGA, patients are also able to complete a sporting event (Giroud, Guard, & Dumas, 1987;Posteraro, 1988), taxi an airplane for takeoff (Fisher, 1982), complete a bellringing musical performance , and cook a meal without any diminution ofskill. One surgeon was in the midst ofan operation when TGA occurred, and, despite his confused comments to his nurse, he finished the surgical incision "as well as he had closed up any gallbladder ... in the last dozen years.…”

“…29 However, evidence against an epileptic etiology of TGA was provided by a case report in which an electroencephalogram was performed at the onset of the event. 30 Transient global amnesia associated with hydrocephalus has been attributed to either a disturbance of neurotransmission in the limbic system or a decreased blood flow in the central arteries, 31 while TGA due to hemorrhagic pituitary adenoma has been explained by compression affecting the neuronal pathway in the hippocampus related to the memory process. 32 Although head trauma is an exclusionary criteria for TGA, it has been postulated that mild head trauma may cause a temporary functional arrest of the memory mechanisms that does not correspond to actual morphological damage to anatomical structures.…”
