The finite state dependent queueing model with F-policy is investigated by considering the general retrial attempts. On arrival in the system, if the job finds the server engaged, it is forced to enter into the retrial orbit. After a random period of time, the job from the retrial orbit re-attempts for the service. According to F-policy, as the system attains its full capacity, the arrivals are restricted to join the system until the number of jobs comes down to the prefixed threshold value 'F '. The supplementary variable corresponding to the remaining retrial time is used to frame the governing equations which are solved by using Laplace-Stieltjes transform and then applying the recursive method. Special models for machine repair and time-sharing queue are deduced by setting the state dependent rates. Several system indices are obtained explicitly which are further used to facilitate the sensitivity analysis by considering a numerical illustration. A cost function is constructed and minimized for evaluating the optimal threshold parameter and optimal service rate.

The aim of the present article is to give a historical survey of some important research works related to queues in machining system since 2010. Queues of failed machines in machine repairing problem occur due to the failure of machines at random in the manufacturing industries, where different jobs are performed on machining stations. Machines are subject to failure what may result in significant loss of production, revenue, or goodwill. In addition to the references on queues in machining system, which is also called 'Machine Repair Problem' (MRP) or 'Machine Interference Problem' (MIP), a meticulous list of books and survey papers is also prepared so as to provide a detailed catalog for understanding the research in queueing domain. We have classified the relevant literature according to a year of publishing, methodological, and modeling aspects. The author(s) hope that this survey paper could be of help to learners contemplating research on queueing domain.

This study is concerned with the transient state analysis of M/M/1 machine repairable system consisting of M operating units. F-policy is quite useful to avoid the overloading of failed machines that arrive for repair in the system. The failed machines are repaired by a server that is susceptible to failure and follows the threshold recovery while being repaired. The server leaves for a vacation if there are no machines waiting in the system for the repair. Runge-Kutta method is implemented to solve the governing equations and evaluate the system's state probabilities. Cost function is also designed to determine the system’s minimum cost. In addition, the numerical outcomes acquired by the Runge-Kutta method are compared with the results generated by adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS).
