In an era where technological and scientific advancements are pivotal to national development, this paper meticulously examines the state of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Nigeria. It aims to dissect the complexities, challenges, and opportunities within this educational sector, particularly in the context of global educational trends and national developmental imperatives. The study's scope encompasses a critical analysis of the historical evolution, current practices, and future trajectories of Nigerian STEM education, with a keen focus on aligning it with global standards. Employing a systematic literature review methodology, the study rigorously selects and analyzes pertinent studies and reports, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of Nigerian STEM education. This approach facilitates an in-depth understanding of the multifaceted nature of STEM education in Nigeria, including its pedagogical approaches, policy implications, and comparative global perspectives. The findings reveal a landscape of innovation and progress, marked by advancements in teaching methodologies and curriculum development. However, these positive strides coexist with significant challenges such as persistent gender disparities, resource inadequacies, and deficiencies in teacher training. The study underscores the critical need for Nigeria to harmonize its STEM education with international benchmarks while addressing these endemic challenges. Conclusively, the paper advocates for strategic policy reforms aimed at enhancing teacher training, updating curriculum content, and integrating modern technologies in STEM education. It emphasizes the importance of fostering gender equity and tailoring education to meet industry demands, thereby equipping students with relevant skills for the global market. The recommendations provided serve as a roadmap for stakeholders, guiding efforts to revitalize Nigerian STEM education and position it at the forefront of global educational excellence. The fourth industrial revolution has necessitated the revamping of education relevant for the twenty-first-century knowledge and skills. This work studies the potential of accelerating creative learning and innovation with early exposure and access to modern STEM platforms. Early access is expected to enhance the understanding of the significance of knowledge and skills in science technology engineering, and mathematics platforms. The derivation of understanding of the impact of early access in enhancing STEM education at the grassroots was part of the study. Students and STEM teachers were engaged in learning and experiencing the potential of STEM through hands-on experimental learning. The basic application implementation on automation, the internet of things, and artificial intelligence were used to ensure the learners gets the first-hand experience of STEM technologies. The first part of study indicated the lack of platforms and learning tools has impacted the development of youths’ curiosity about STEM despite being aware of its significance and being a daily customer. It has also adversely affected the ability of youths in expressing their creativity and innovative ideas. On the other hand, youths through organized workshops were introduced to STEM platforms named STEMSEL and runlinc to impart an understanding of automation, IoT, and AI applications. The youth participants could experimentally design, develop and deploy (3D) the basic applications with the minimum number of lines of programming code. The student participants exhibited an increased level of understanding of the significance of STEM in the completion of workshops. Furthermore, the ability to use their creativity and converge into 3D experimentally enabled them to draw a better understanding of STEM technologies. The participants demonstrated their realization of the significance of hands-on learning tools to maximize, accelerate, and motivate themselves into learning STEM after the immersion program i.e. STEM workshops. With this study, promotion and importance of STEM education can be achieved within the region. STEM Education inculcates the hands-on experiential learning of the youths driving towards innovative workforce of the country through technology-based learning.

This work studies the potential of transforming STEM education with the integration of recent STEM learning technologies. STEM is the focus of the education system as it is the driver for creation, innovation, and invention. However, the delay in the introduction of STEM in the education system impacts the motivation of youths to take up STEM courses, thereby adversely affecting the enrolment into the field and proliferation. Furthermore, the digital divide among the youths in urban and rural settings also plays a vital role in creating the gap when it comes to STEM education. Therefore, this work analyses the experimental-based case study to assess the impact of early access to STEM educational tools in ensuring the youths understand the potential of STEM. Priliminary study to understand the pupil's perception on existing method of STEM teaching-learning is carried out. The general perception is that students' are not able to visualize, neither they are able to understand the potential of STEM. Hence, does not play significant role in motivating the pupil to take up the STEM fields. On the other hand, as part of the study, same group who responded in preliminary study took part in STEM workshops. Basic concepts and applications of automation, the internet of things, and AI were considered for the students to visualize the potential of STEM education. STEMSEL microncontroller and runlinc- an online IoT and AI application development platform were used as study tool. Students demonstrated their ability to discover their own creativity and innovation using the platform where 3D model (design, development, and deployment) concept was inculcated. The participant students were from schools in rural location who do have access to such learning platforms. On completion of workshops, pupils' (students) understanding of STEM, their perception towards it, and their visualization on the potential of STEM education in making the impact for social good drastically improved. Therefore, the study indicated that the early access to hands-on educational tools, integration into teaching-learning of STEM would bring transformation in STEM education. Such exposure would also motivate youths take up STEM fields in higher education, thereby enhancing the enrollment.
