Transformation Process and Photocatalytic Activities of Hydrothermally Synthesized Zn2SnO4 Nanocrystals

Abstract: In this study, a systematic approach was applied to the hydrothermal synthesis of Zn 2 SnO 4 (ZTO) nanocrystals to gain insight into the fundamental factors controlling phase composition, particle size, crystal morphology and photocatalytic activity. The influence of various operating conditions, such as reaction temperature, alkaline concentration, duration time, and additive surfactants on the treatment process were investigated. By combining the results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microscopy (SEM/T… Show more

“…20 The first two Raman bands can be assigned to the E (LO) and A 1 (LO) symmetries, respectively, in ZnSnO 3 , whereas the peak at 607 cm À1 can arise from the bending modes of M-OH-M bonds, where M represents either Zn atoms or Sn atoms. 21,22 This showed evidence of presence of OH groups in the sample, as confirmed by the FTIR analysis, which can be present as trapped water molecules or hydroxides. Figure 3(b) shows the FTIR spectrum of the ZnSnO 3 MCs prepared at room temperature.…”

“…4,10 Recently, the hydrothermal synthesis of Zn 2 SnO 4 was reported. [11][12][13] Hydrothermal methods have advantages over the solid state reactions and high temperature calcinations methods, such as a lower reaction temperature and simpler method for producing nano-sized particles. Therefore, hydrothermal methods should be used to prepare Zn 2 SnO 4 nanoparticles to improve the photocatalytic activity.…”

“…Foletto et al have synthesized ZTO by hydrothermal method at 200℃ for 12 hr and investigated their photocatalytic activities on leather dye [14]. Several other literatures reporting synthesis and properties of ZTO nanostructures were also published ever since [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…Large number of methods have been developed for the preparation of ZTO, such as thermal evaporation [23,24], high temperature calcination [12,25], solgel synthesis [26,27], mechanical grinding [28] and hydrothermal reaction [6,10,11,18,[29][30][31]. Among these methods, the electrochemical method has aroused a considerable interest in the synthesis of nanosized metal metal-oxide powder and films because of its simplicity, low temperature operation process and viability of commercial production.…”
